Silver Mayor by
LB Dunbar is now available!
Charlie Harrington is a respectable man. Mayor to his small, mountain town. Successful attorney. Dotting single father. After one mishap in the past, he avoids scandal. Making everyone happy is his goal. He’s nothing but content...and a bit boring. Then one morning, he finds a beautiful woman in his bedroom, and his world turns upside down. His good guy side suddenly wants to be a little bad.
Janessa Cruz has been both a have and a have-not. Ex-wife to someone famous, she’s now a single mother in hiding. She just wants to go unnoticed. Quietly starting over in her forties is the plan. Only she isn’t certain what she wants. When a misunderstanding brings her face-to-face with the sexy town mayor, she can’t seem to avoid him, and being a little reckless never felt so right.
Another Harrington brother bites the dust, and he’s looking forward to getting all kinds of dirty.
My Review:
Charlie Harrington is the mayor of his town, and is always the one to do the right thing. He's a local, single father of a precocious 10 year old daughter named Lucy, and is the youngest of the Harrington brothers. He's always the good guy - clean cut and mostly scandal free.
Janessa, or Jan, is new in town after a recent split from her celebrity baseball star husband, and living with her parents (who work for Charlie) in Charlie's carriage house. She's trying to lay low, and since she walked away from her marriage with nothing other than her daughter, she's in need of a job quickly.
He comes home one day to find Jan in his bedroom with his grandmother's ring on - he accuses her of stealing it, she fights back, and the sparks start to fly. She leaves in a hurry, and he doesn't see her again until their daughter's have a play date, and again when she applies for a position in for the City as a parks manager. Their "chance" encounters keep them intrigued, and their daughter's friendship has them connected and in each other's lives even when they're trying to avoid each other.
The two manage their attraction, their daughters, their ex-spouses (who are quite hateful),
and their extended families in this fantastic read. The one thing I really appreciate about LB Dunbar's books other than the age of the characters, is the complexities that occur when dealing with older adults who are tied to their communities, their families, and their past. As always, this one has a ton of steam, some heartbreaking moments, and a happy ending for all.
