Lakeside Cottage series
Living at 40
An all-new contemporary romance from
L.B. Dunbar
centered around lifelong friendships, a lake house, and second chances at love over 40.
BLURB:
Is it an accidental pregnancy, if it’s purposefully planned?
Autumn Kulis wants a baby. It’s that simple and that complicated because one thing stands in her way - she doesn’t have a man in her life. And at almost forty, she isn’t getting any younger. On a two-week trip to her brother’s lakeside cottage, a plan forms. Make a list of three men. Sleep with each of them. Allow nature to take its course. Only, a certain someone gets in her way.
Logan Anders goes with the flow of life. Divorced, single dad, he works hard, and occasionally plays harder. When his college roommate invites him to Lakeside Cottage for two weeks, he hadn’t remembered his best friend’s little sister being so hot. Nor was he a fan of her plan to find a baby daddy. He’s determined to make her list then tear it to shreds leaving him the only man horizontal with her.
When we were forty, we had so much life to live, and a simple proposition could be the start of a second chance at really living.

My Review:
Let me start by saying that I love LB Dunbar's books, as she's one of
the few authors who consistently writes novels for the "over 40" crowd.
This
one however, wasn't one of my favorites. It centers around Ben and his
sister Autumn. Ben and his wife Anna have decided to move back to a lake
house that was part of Anna's family, and where his sister currently
lives. He also wants to have one last weekend with his four best
friends. Autumn is single, has her own business, and a string of failed
relationships. She's also trying to have a baby, and her SIL Anna
challenges her to have a "big chill" event and sleep with several men
and see who get her to her goal.
The contenders for her baby
daddy escapade include two of Ben's friends. One, is married and has his
own kids, so he's out. The others include a womanizer, and the third,
her long time crush who crushed her heart as a teen. This is where I
checked out. While Logan was physically transformed, his personality as a
jerk was not. He continually engages in
sexcapades while not only
denying his impact on her and her feelings, but also treats her like a
one night stand. He's detached to the point of being cruel, and his
"grand gesture" at the end is one that I found annoying and meant as a
romantic act, but seems like yet another decision that was taken away
from Autumn.
This is very likely a case of "it's not the book,
it's me" but I'm hoping that the other stories int his series - likely
those of the other friends, and Anna, redeem themselves.
