My Review
If there's one thing that KA does well, it's write novels that transport you to new worlds. This one does this literally, and takes the reader back to Fantasyland and Hawkvale.
This has some of the themes of the others with parallel worlds, arranged marriages, fancy gowns, inclusion of parents in the story, and secrets that come out. Maxine is the daughter of a Count that has been arranged to be married to Loren, the son of the Duke. The only problem is that Maxine had an injury as a young girl and is in no position to marry. She's been kept hidden, and the Count has to find a way to keep himself in good graces. As with others in this series, he finds a witch to parallel Maxine's twin, along with her mother, and tries to pass her off as his own daughter.
While the others in the series had alpha men jerks, this one wasn't like the others and had very little angst. The door also appears open for Ashley to return with additional novels/novellas in this series, which I am excited to see!
